Russian Embassy rejects fake reports claiming that President Putin called Cambodia ‘ungrateful’
The Russian Embassy in Cambodia has issued a strongly worded statement regarding fake news circulating on social media about comments allegedly made by Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning Cambodia.
In a social media post, the Embassy states that ‘We have taken note of a post published on the Tin New Facebook page, which subsequently was picked up by other groups such as ASEAN Skylines Rising.
The materials claim that Vladimir Putin, Russia’s President, allegedly expressed his unwillingness to support Cambodia and called the Kingdom “ungrateful.”
The Russian Embassy refute this claim as a complete fake; the Russian leader has never made such statements. Moreover, it totally contradicts the spirit of relations between Moscow and Phnom Penh, as Russia provided significant support in Cambodia’s reconstruction following its liberation from the Khmer Rouge regime, and since then comprehensive cooperation continues to develop daily.
During his conversation with Prime Minister Hun Manet, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Kazan, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia continues to assist Cambodia in professional training and is interested in expanding business-to-business contacts between the two countries.
The President also emphasised that the two nations’ governments are working to intensify trade and investment ties.
The steady development of the dialogue between our countries is evidenced by the consultations between Andrey Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held on Monday.
The Russian Embassy called on everyone to double-check information to ensure it is from reliable sources.
